Bioactive Compounds in Nutritional Bar Based on Dry Orange Flakes Improve Lipid Profile and Increase Antioxidant Capacity in Hypercholesterolemic Patients
Herbamed has developed a new nutrition bar based on dried orange flakes. The present study evaluated the ability of this nutritional bar to exert an effect on hypercholesterolemic patients. Diets supplemented with dried orange flakes or in a bar dose form daily for 4 months, represent a dramatic shift of the study population to reduced ranges of total blood cholesterol and HDL to LDL ratios both in males and females without any apparent side effects. The bar efficacy may result from the high content of polyphenols, flavonoids and antioxidant potential as well as the ratio between soluble to non soluble fiber.
Enhanced oral bioavailability of Coenzyme Q10 (Ubiquinone) formulated in Ultrasome TM drug delivery system.
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), is a very lipophilic compound and poorly absorbed in the gut. CoQ10 was formulated using the UltrasomeTM proprietary drug delivery technology. The UltrasomeTM encapsulated CoQ10 showed high drug-trapping efficacy, better in vitro drug release and enhanced oral bioavailability. The positive effects of Ultrasome-CoQ10TM were observed among Israeli athletes with respect to muscle pain, among patients with end-stage heart failure, in healing process of chronic skin lesions, hip fracture rehabilitation and in neurodegenerative diseases model with no side effects.
Efficacy of cactus flowers miller treatment in benign prostatic hyperplasia due to inhibition of 5α reductase activity, aromatase activity and lipid peroxidation.
Two clinical trials were evaluated by Herbamed to test the beneficial properties of cactus flowers among patients who suffered from BPH symptoms. This treatment significantly improved nocturia, drops after voiding, filling of bladder fullness, emergency for urination and urgency for urination. The mechanism of action may exert from possible inhibition of such processes as lipid peroxidation, androgen aromatization and testosterone reduction.
